Hi friends,
I hope last week was good for you!
It was the first week of my new training block, and I did three easy runs, a longer run, and two gym sessions.
To be fair, I accomplished what I had planned.
But to fit things into my schedule, I had to slot in a run during the launch of Core Collective Sentosa last Saturday, cut short both my gym sessions due to admin work, and make last-minute changes to my calendar.
Above all, going from less than five km weekly in prior weeks to 17km in a week was a sizeable jump.
I already feel slightly burnt out.
In my early twenties, I would push through any impending burnout. In my late twenties, I would have planned for a lighter load next week.
But in recent years, I’ve realised it’s better to wait and see. And then make adjustments day-to-day.
Ultimately, it’s useful to have the ability to accurately gauge what’s best for yourself on a day-to-day basis.
I’m still working on it, and it’s a skill I wish more of you benefit from.
It requires:
a holistic perspective of your health and fitness goals
the knowledge of how to plan your own workout
understanding what to prioritise
So, oddly, my emphasis the past week has been sleep.
But it came to that because, in my context, recovering faster is more important than me clocking another session.
As for you, if you wish to, feel free to think through the three steps I mentioned above for your context.
It might help you better understand what you need regarding your health.
The fun part is that the answer is always changing, and there’s always room for better judgement.
Let me know what you think in the comments or when I see you around!
Also, later this week, I’ll be dropping a new YouTube video on how CC Sentosa’s launch went (subscribe to the channel if you haven’t).
Some insiders news: we are running a promo. Our next three personal training signups will get three sessions free.
Send the news to someone who might benefit from it. We hope to hear from you soon :)
