Our Personal Trainer Business is Evolving!
TLDR: We're gradually shifting our focus to longevity.
Hi friends,
I hope you’ve been healthy.
Last week, I had several interesting conversations with my team, and I’ll share them in a bit.
How I Optimised My Routine Last Week
As usual, I’ll first share how I optimised my workout last week.
Mon: core
Tue: rest
Wed: 5km easy run
Thu: rest
Fri: VO2 max intervals + strength
Sat: 3km easy run
Sun: Rest
For context, last week was week three of my training, and I’m training for IPPT, Singapore’s military fitness test that reservist men have to take annually.
As you can see, I had three days where I did nothing.
Aka “rest.”
This was partly due to the wet weather, my calendar, my lack of motivation, my need for rest, etc.
Things I would categorise as ‘excuses’ when I was younger.
But now that I know my body better, I understand it takes a while for me to get back into a workout routine.
Not just physically, but also mentally.
After all, I eventually heck the weather and ran in the rain on Saturday.
The few “rest” days, however, helped me mentally and physically prepare for more enjoyable workouts.
And something important I learned from running consistently over 14 years is that it has to stay enjoyable for me to keep going back to it.
From my experience, it’s the same for most people.
Hence, you might want to keep this perspective when you’re working out too 🙂
Unknowingly Optimising Longevity
Apart from working out, I spent the last week learning more about how humans can stay healthy for as long as possible.
Interestingly, I found that when it comes to exercising, it’s precisely how I train most of my clients.
Don’t take my word for it though.
Here’s a concise piece of content from Dr Peter Attia’s website, which I’ve been spending too much time on.
It touches on strength, stability, and zone 2 and zone 5 training.
If it sounds familiar to you, it might be because I’ve covered it in my previous videos; those are the same areas anyone picking up running should focus on.
After sharing this finding with my team, we all agreed that longevity is not only an exciting topic but an important one.
Especially for Singapore’s ageing populatio and our clients, who are all senior executives.
Hence, our team is gradually shifting our focus to this area:
1. We have started to learn more about the topic. And we’ll soon share our learnings in future videos.
2. At the same time, I’ll also be relaunching our vodcast, this time round focusing on health challenges for the c-suite.
3. Lastly, I also plan to partner with more professionals with the same interest.
If you have a contact who’s an expert in this area, please consider linking us up.
I’ll be thankful to have a chat with him/her.
Otherwise, stay tuned for more updates, and take care!
Kindest,
Jing
